Nitrous Oxide Treatment

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a mild sedative, colorless, and virtually odorless gas that has a sweet smell. It has an analgesic and anxiolytic effect that keeps the child relax during the dental procedure. Patients should receive pediatric dental sedation during these situations:

  • Long and Complex procedures.
  • Patients with special health needs.
  • Fearful and anxious patients.
  • Children with a gag reflex that interferes with the procedure.

The child will breathe in a mixture of oxygen and the nitrous oxide through a small nose fitting. They will begin to feel relaxed with a minute or two. They will remain conscious, but without feeling fear or anxiety.

Nitrous oxide has a superior safety record in terms of pediatric sedation dentist and its use has shown many benefits during the dental procedure:

  1. The patient is calm and happy during the procedure.
  2. There is increased patient cooperation and tolerance for longer procedures.
  3. Reduces any undesired reaction to the dental procedure.
  4. It is effective for procedures that require the patient not to remain still.

If you want your child to enjoy a happy and successful experience at the dentist, schedule an appointment with us, and discuss our sedation options.

Moreover, IV Sedation can be more tailored to each individual patient than other forms of sedation, which is another advantage when treating kids.

By using this type of sedation, it is much more likely that children will have a pleasant experience during the dental visit, and faster recovery time after the dental visit. To sum up, if your child is anxious about going to the dentist, or needs a lot of work completed in as few sessions as possible, pediatric sedation using IV Sedation may be the ideal solution for you.
