Your first dental visit
At Capital Pediatric Dentistry we strive to make your child’s visit educational and enjoyable. We want your child to feel good about visiting the dentist and understand the importance of taking care of their teeth. As parents, you can help us make your child’s visit a positive one.
Step 1
Getting Comfortable With Dr. Crippen
- Discussions with you and your child about any habits (thumb-sucking, pacifiers, bottles, etc.)
- Brushing, flossing, and diet will be reviewed and outlined
- Occlusion (the way our teeth fit together) will be evaluated

Step 2
Thorough Exam
- All teeth and soft tissues will be fully examined
- Digital x-rays will be taken (as needed) to diagnose cavities, infections, position and location of un-erupted teeth
- Teeth will be cleaned and polished
- Fluoride treatments will be provided (when appropriate)
Step 3
Thumbs Up Rock Star!
You’ll finish the appointment with a clear understanding of the next steps needed to fix any issues we identified.
In addition to these services, Dr. Crippen will be available to address any specific questions or concerns that you may have.

Why We Chose Dr. Crippen
We’ve been taking our kids to Dr. Crippen for almost 10 years! There is never a long wait, things run smoothly and on time. Over the years, two of our children have had various treatments that required sedation. Here’s what we appreciate most:
- Our youngest daughter fell and badly chipped her front tooth when she was very young, resulting in the need for a lot of dental work. Dr. Crippen was thoughtful and spent all the time she needed to reassure and educate her on what to expect. This really helped her get through the procedure by eliminating the fear factor, making her feel safe and secure in an otherwise scary situation.
- We appreciate being able to take all of our kids there, despite their age range. They all feel comfortable and welcomed.
- From watching movies on the ceiling, checking up on our fish friends in their lobby's amazing fish tank, the kids waiting room arcade area, we as a family all agree the best part of our visits are still Dr. Crippen! He is genuinely excited and interested in our lives, and our health.

Before you even mention the word dentist to your child, think about what words you shouldn’t use. Try to refrain from using the following words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear:
- Needle
- Shot
- Hurt
- Pull
Our office makes a practice of using words that convey the same meaning, but are more pleasant and not as frightening to your child.
